Conference at Georgetown University.

On the 9th of November President Aleksander Kwaśniewski participated at the conference “30 Years after 1989 : Commemorating the fall of the Berlin Wall and the end of the Cold War, Reflecting upon our Political Present” at the Georgetown University, in Washington.

Mr. President opened the conference together with The Honorable Chuck Hagel (24th United States Secretary of Defense (2013-2015)).

Within the panel, experts were answering the questions about the lessons we’ve learn from 1989, and if we can use these lessons to combat right-wing populism in Germany, Europe, and the United States.
Among the panelists were : Dr. Rolf Mützenich, MdB (Chairman of the Social Democratic Party of Germany Parliamentary Group), Susann Rüthrich, MdB, (Member of the German Parliament for Meissen, Saxony) and Ambassador Ivan Korčok (Ambassador of the Slovak Republic to the United States).

Conference was organized by The Friedrich Ebert Foundation and the BMW Center for German and European Studies.
